After a full day of food and wandering around Mongkok, Day 4 took us somewhere completely different — to the quieter, gentler side of Hong Kong on Lantau Island.
We started the day a little later. After checking out around 11am, we left our bags with the hotel concierge and headed out for another round of dim sum breakfast near our hotel. We also used the chance to pick up some souvenirs before returning to collect our luggage and make our way toward Lantau.
For this part of the trip, we stayed at Novotel Citygate, which is directly connected to the train station and a mall — super convenient. Our room wasn’t ready yet since we arrived early, so we grabbed a drink and rested for a bit. The room itself was slightly dated, but spacious enough for both our suitcases to open fully… something I’ve come to appreciate on this trip!
Once we settled in, we walked over to the nearby bus terminal and took a ride out to Mui Wo, a small village community that feels worlds away from the city. The pace was slower, the air fresher, and the whole place had a soft, peaceful charm. Moments like this reminded me that Hong Kong is so much more than skyscrapers and shopping — there are these quiet pockets of calm hidden around the city.
We wandered around for a while, soaking in the relaxed surroundings and enjoying the stillness after a few busy days.
For dinner, we tried a Baan Rao Thai Restaurantant in the village, and it turned out to be really yummy. The food was flavourful, comforting, and perfect for the cool weather. There was something really nice about enjoying a warm meal in such a quiet corner of Hong Kong, far from the usual crowds.
After dinner, it was already dark, so we stopped by a nearby supermarket to pick up snacks and water for the next day’s hike. It wasn’t a packed itinerary, but that’s exactly why it felt so enjoyable — slow, simple, and meaningful in its own way.

Day 4 became a much-needed pause between our busier days — a gentle reset before one of my favourite experiences of the trip.
P.S. Next entry: a scenic hike awaits! 🌿✨
