Ashes in the Light

Words left behind in half-light

Evening at Spectrum Lounge & Bar

One of the unexpectedly lovely nights in Bangkok happened at Spectrum Lounge & Bar, perched on the rooftop of Hyatt Regency Bangkok. It wasn’t a big fancy celebration—just a casual evening where I joined my husband and his colleagues who are based in Bangkok for drinks and dinner. Some of them brought their spouses and partners too, which made it feel more like a relaxed get-together than a formal work night.

The place itself has a modern rooftop vibe—elegant but easygoing, with warm lighting, live music, and a splendid panoramic view of the Bangkok skyline. We got there a little early, so while waiting for one of their partners to arrive, we started with a round of fancy cocktails.

Once everyone was seated, we ordered a few starters to share—the kind that disappear quickly when conversations are flowing. We had Grilled Kagoshima Top Round paired with Jaew Sauce, Kagoshima Wagyu Kushiyaki, Japanese Snow Crab Salad, and Red Tuna Tartare.

For mains, I went with the Hokkaido Scallop, while my husband had the Kurobuta Pork Chop. Every dish was flavourful, beautifully plated, and just right for the kind of unhurried, easygoing evening we were enjoying.

If I had one tiny complaint, it’s that the air conditioning inside was really strong—so maybe bring a light jacket if you plan to sit indoors. But the overall ambiance made up for it. Between the city lights below, the live band playing in the background, and the easy company, it was one of those quietly memorable nights.

It made me realise how much I enjoy these in-between moments—not quite work, not quite play, just something comfortably in the middle.

If you’re in Bangkok and looking for a spot with great cocktails, a gorgeous rooftop view, and a chill yet classy atmosphere, Spectrum Lounge & Bar is a solid pick. Highly recommend for a relaxed night out with friends or even a slow, romantic evening.
