Now that I’m in between chapters in life, I have more time to slow down and do the little things—like spending a weekday afternoon with my mom.
Recently, we went out for lunch, and I brought her to a café not too far from home. Since we don’t drive, I picked a place that was easy to get to by bus: Lola’s Café at Simon Road. I only decided on the spot that morning and quickly made a reservation. Good thing I did—there was already a queue when we arrived!
We order everything for sharing since we were super hungry. And here’s what we ordered.
We were both starving, so we ordered everything to share. On our table:
- Miso Maple Charred Brussel Sprouts
- Lola’s Salad
- Bangers & Mash

(Drinks not pictured—we each got one: a hot Jasmine Tea with Lemongrass and an Iced Peach Oolong Tea.)
The food was pretty decent overall, though my mom found the brussel sprouts a little too salty for her liking. Still, it was a lovely meal with easy conversation.
It felt nice to just sit and chat with her—no rush, no distractions. Just a simple afternoon, but one I’m grateful for.
Life’s been changing a lot lately, but having days like this reminds me what really matters. Just being present, and sharing a meal with someone I love.
